Period of GKS Scholarship
Bachelor’s Degree Program: 5-7 years
- 1 year of Korean language training + 4~6 years of degree program
Associate Degree Program: 3-4 years
- 1 year of Korean language training + 2~3 years of degree program
GKS Scholarship Benefits
The GKS Scholarship 2025 covers airfare and tuition and provides a monthly stipend of over 1,000,000 KRW And Medical Insurance with other incentives including:
- Tuition: Up to 5 million KRW in tuition fees
- Airfare: Economy class round-trip flight ticket
- Monthly allowance: 900,000 KRW per month
- Medical insurance: Standard amount set by NIIED
- Korean proficiency grants: 100,000 KRW

Eligibility Criteria For Global Korea Scholarship (GKS)
Are you Eligible?
For Graduate Programs:
- You must be a citizen of a country participating in the GKS program.
- You must be under 40 years old (with exceptions for academic professors from specific countries).
- You must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- You must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 80% in your previous degree program.
- You cannot be a Korean citizen or hold dual Korean citizenship.
- You cannot have previously graduated from a higher education institution in Korea (except former GKS scholars).
For Undergraduate Programs:
- You must be a citizen of a country participating in the GKS program.
- You must be under 25 years old.
- You must be a high school graduate.
- You must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 80% in your previous studies.
- You cannot be a Korean citizen or hold dual Korean citizenship.
- You cannot have previously graduated from high school in Korea or hold a Bachelor’s degree.
How to Apply For GKS Scholarship?
GKS Have two application tracks:
Embassy Track: You submit your application to the Korean embassy in your home country.
Applying for this track entails sending your application to the Korean embassy in your nation of residence. After that, the embassy will choose which applications to pass on to the next phase by screening them according to the predetermined NIIED selection criteria.
University Track: You directly apply to universities designated by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) in Korea.
With this Track, you can apply straight to Korean universities that have been approved by NIIED. These colleges will examine your application materials and choose applicants according to their own particular requirements and program openings.
The application process involves three rounds of selection:
- First Round: The Korean embassy in your home country (Embassy Track) or the university you applied to (University Track) will assess your application in this first round. The NIIED selection criteria, which include things like academic transcripts, standardized test results (if applicable), recommendation letters, statements of purpose, and other pertinent papers, will be used by both organizations to evaluate your application materials.
- Second Round: Your application will move on to the NIIED selection committee if you clear the first stage. This committee uses a stringent selection procedure to choose the most deserving candidates for the scholarship after carefully reviewing all of the applications from the successful applicants who made it beyond the first round.
- 3rd Round (Embassy Track Only): Only applicants who applied through the Embassy Track and cleared the second round are eligible for this round. The universities you applied to will evaluate your materials in this round to assess your eligibility for admission. It is crucial to get accepted into at least one of the universities you applied to.
